Laura Marling – Factory Theatre, 1 August, 2010
“Returning to Australia with her second album, I Speak Because I Can, Laura Marling accompanied her spot at Splendour in the Grass with limited side shows including this one, an all-ages gig at the Factory Theatre on a rainy Sunday night.
Supporting was The Maple Trail, the solo side-project of Aidan Roberts of psychedelic pop quintet Belles Will Ring, and as he settled in and started to play, the Factory steadily filled up with couples, middle-agers, high school fans, and the odd toddler and baby, proving Marling’s appeal with a wide and varied audience. Roberts’ melodic, textured sound was a perfect warm-up for Marling’s entrance, and had the crowd genuinely engaged with beautiful tunes from his [sophomore] album, Radio Twilight Lost.”
